We officially open today [June 1] and are preparing ourselves for what we hope will be our busiest season yet.
We’ve got lots of new ideas up our sleeve this summer, including a possible lavender themed bake-off, so watch this space!
As well as preparing the field, Lorna has been more in demand than ever with her ‘Introduction to Lavender’ talks which she does for local groups. She’s also attended lots of farmers’ markets and we were both at the Sow and Grow Food Fair in Richmond a few weeks ago which proved a great success.
The most noticeable difference at Mayfield Lavender this year is the change to the layout of our shop, which now has lots more picnic tables.
We are hoping for lots of good weather so you can come along and have somewhere to relax and soak up the sun with a cup of our lavender tea and some lavender shortbread!
People keep asking whether the recent heavy rain has affected the field but because we are based on the chalky North Surrey Downs, we are fortunate that the water drains away easily. What hit us harder was the prolonged cold weather that we had before the glorious mini heat wave over the past couple of weeks!
In the past couple of weeks we’ve seen small shoots emerging from the plants and we are anticipating being in bloom by the end of the month. In the meantime the tea shop and fields are still open to explore everyday from 10am to 6pm.
