The season comes to a close!

Hi Everyone,

We have now decided to close the Farm for a couple of Months as the season is now pretty much finished. We left some of the Grosso (about 2 acres) as a TV production company wished to film an adaptation of a Michel Faber’s Victorian thriller – The Crimson Petal and the White – which will be on the BBC this Autumn. This is basically about a Lavender Plantation owner and his misadventures!

Entries for the Photo Competition for this year will close on 31st August and we will try to get the result on line pretty soon. You can see the results of last years competition by clicking on the link Photo Gallery at the top of the page. You will see the winning photo, the Top 10 finalists and the “Best Of The Rest” from over 450 entries.

We have now closed the farm for a rest following a very busy season. We will re-open the shop for November and December for gift buying.

We are looking into the possibilty of opening at the weekend but for now the plan is to remain closed until November when we will open again for the Christmas season.

Hi and Welcome to Mayfield Lavender!

We are a 25 acre Soil Association accredited organic lavender farm located on the Surry Downs, less than 15 miles from Central London. This area is the home of English Lavender. Situated in Banstead, we border Mitcham, Carshalton and Sutton, which was the most prolific lavender growing area in the world during the 19th and 20th centuries. Now with over 140,000 lavender plants gowing on our farm we have revived Lavender growing on one of the original lavender farms so we are in essence bringing lavender home. When you visit our field you will understand as it is a fabulous sight when in blossom. Our lavenders produce some of the finest oil you could wish for and we hope you will enjoy them. You can find our oils, lavender bags and many more goodies for sale in our Online Shop. You may become a lavender lover too!!

We grow three Lavender varieties on our field. We have two varieties of the richly colourful and sweet English Lavender and one variety of the profuse and strongly fragranced Dutch Lavender (or Lavandin). For more information on this aspect of our farm please click on “Our Lavender Plants”.

We also attend many local farmers markets where we have a stall. We have many regulars who particularly love our Lavender Shortbread and Lavender Fudge. We are working on the photography and packaging of these at the moment so that we can add them to the online shop. We decided to run a photography competition in 2007 and it was so successful we ran it again in the wet summer of 2008. This was a challenge for our photographers but we got some really smashing entries and had many passionate discussions about the winning photograph. Our photo competition is again under way. For this years contest we are again looking for photos on the theme of lavender. We are also interested in photos of biodiversity at our field. Please submit photos in large resolution by email to:

Photo Competition – Terms & Conditions

By participating in this competition and in consideration for the opportunity to be awarded a prize, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions. You should read these terms and conditions carefully. If you do not agree to be bound by these terms and conditions you may not take part in this competition. Entries will be accepted only if they are in accordance with these terms and conditions. Any breach of these terms and conditions by an entrant will render their entry void. These terms and conditions shall be interpreted in accordance with, and shall be governed by, English law.
Entries must be received by 31st August of the relevant year in question.
The winner will be selected after the closing date and will be notified immediately. The winner is required to contact Mayfield Lavender to confirm acceptance of their prize within 10 days of notification. In the event of non-acceptance within the specified period, or if the person is not contactable, Mayfield Lavender reserves the right to reallocate the prize awarded to the next runner up.
By entering the competition, the winner consents to take part in any publicity accompanying or resulting from this promotion, and for his/her name and county to be used for publicity purposes by Mayfield Lavender in printed and/or online formats.
Only one entry per person allowed.

The prize draw is open to all excluding employees of Mayfield Lavender and their immediate families, agents or anyone professionally connected with the promotion.
The prize consists of £200 cash.
The prize is non-transferable.
Open to adults aged 18+.
It is a condition of entry that the terms and conditions of the prize draw are accepted as final and that entrants agree to abide by the rules. No correspondence will be entered into.
Mayfield Lavender will not accept responsibility for loss of entries through technical fault, postal/transmission delays or incomplete, illegible or other damaged entries. Proof of entry is not automatically proof of receipt.
In the event of unforeseen circumstances Mayfield Lavender reserves the right to offer alternative prize of equal or greater value.
Entrants will retain any copyright in their submitted entries. However, by entering the competition all entrants grant to Mayfield Lavender a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use and publish each entry in any and all media (including print and online) for exhibition, publicity and any other purposes Mayfield Lavender deem appropriate including the sale of printed material.
All entries must be original photographs taken at Mayfield Lavender Farm.
All entries must be the original work and photography of the named entrant submitting them. Entrants should note that copying the work of a third party may constitute an infringement of third party rights, including third party intellectual property rights. In the event it is determined that any entrant has plagiarised the work of another person, that entry will not be considered for the purposes of the competition. In such circumstances any prize awarded may be withdrawn, and any prize awarded will require to be returned.
You agree that you will not submit any material to the competition that infringes the rights of any party or contains any images or content that is in any way unlawful, harmful, threatening, defamatory, obscene, harassing or ethically or otherwise objectionable and facilitates or promotes illegal activity, depicts pornographic or sexually explicit images or promotes violence or discrimination.
The Competition Organisers retain the right to take any action which they, in their sole discretion, deem necessary or appropriate in respect of material submitted by entrants.

Thank you to all who entered our 2009 photo competition. We had an overwhelming response to our photo competition and received hundreds or images from our enthusiastic entrants. It took a long time to download the gigabytes of photos, and rate them. To reach the final winners took many hours and several rounds of elimination. Congratulations to Nick Evans whose photo finally topped the judging process and is our 2009 winner. we think Nick really captured the nature of our field when it is at its peak.
