National Bee Week

2026-05-21T12:48:54+01:0021 May 2026|News|

This week, Wednesday 20th May to be precise was National Bee Day, and here at Mayfield Lavender it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate some of our hardest-working summer visitors.

Not only do bees help support biodiversity and pollination across our countryside, but they also play a vital role in keeping ecosystems healthy and thriving. During the summer months, our lavender fields become a haven for bees, butterflies and other pollinators, filling the farm with the gentle hum of nature at work.

As the UK’s first organic lavender farm accredited by the Soil Association, caring for wildlife and encouraging pollinators has always been at the heart of what we do.

Did You Know?

Lavender is one of the best plants for attracting bees because:

🐝 It produces large amounts of nectar

🌸 It flowers during peak bee season

💜 Its fragrance naturally attracts pollinators

☀️ It thrives in warm, sunny conditions

🌿 It provides both nectar and pollen for food

The long flowering stems also make it easier for bees to land and collect what they need efficiently.

You Can Help Bees at Home too

Good news, you don’t need acres of lavender fields to support pollinators, even small spaces can make a difference…

Simply:

Plant Bee-Friendly Flowers

Lavender, wildflowers, sunflowers, foxgloves and buddleia are all loved by bees.

Leave Out Water

Easy peasey – a shallow dish with stones and water can help bees safely stop for a drink during hot weather.

Avoid Pesticides

Using fewer chemicals in gardens helps protect pollinators and encourages biodiversity.

Let Areas Grow Wild

Even leaving a small corner of your garden untouched can create valuable habitats for bees and butterflies.

Grow Lavender

Lavender is low maintenance, smells beautiful and is one of the very best plants for attracting bees.

Hear the Sound of Summer at Work at Mayfield

Every summer, our fields come alive not only with colour but with thousands of busy pollinators enjoying the lavender blooms.

It’s one of the many reasons we’re so passionate about protecting nature and continuing to create spaces where wildlife can flourish alongside visitors.

So next time you visit Mayfield Lavender, take a quiet moment amongst the flowers and listen closely – you’ll hear the sound of summer at work 🐝💜

Summer at Mayfield Lavender – Celebrating 20 Years

The summer season is almost here, and we’re delighted to be reopening Mayfield Lavender Farm on Saturday, 6th June.

This year is particularly special for us as we celebrate 20 years of Mayfield Lavender; two decades of welcoming visitors to experience the beauty, calm and joy of our fields in bloom.

2006

2026

A Season of Renewal

For 2026, our season is inspired by the themes of renewal, regrowth and regeneration, something that sits at the heart of everything we do.

As you wander through the lavender fields, you’re not just visiting, you’re becoming part of the story.

At our Potting Station (included in your ticket), you can learn how to propagate lavender to grow at home, while our Adopt-a-Plant programme gives you the opportunity to leave a personal message or dedication beneath newly planted lavender at the site and support the continued regeneration of the farm.

New Ways to Experience Mayfield

This summer, we’re introducing new, more flexible ways to visit.

Our Anyday Tickets allow you to plan your visit with ease, without being tied to a specific date.

We’ve also introduced three experience packages:

– Explorer

– Voyager

– Pathfinder

Each offers a different way to enjoy your time at Mayfield.

For those who want to return throughout the season, our new Purple Pass gives you five visits for just £25.

What’s New for 2026

Alongside your favourite Mayfield moments, there’s plenty more to discover this year:

– A curated selection of street food traders

– The return of our Moments at Mayfield Photography Competition

– New experiences, including the Lavender Labyrinth, The Tree of Lavender Wishes, Bee & Butterfly Exploration Trail, and The Spritz Cooler, perfect for warm summer days

And of course, there’ll be the return of much-loved experiences from the Looby Loo tractor train to our iconic photo spots (including the red telephone box!) 💜

A Place to Return To

For over 20 years, Mayfield Lavender has been part of reviving the area’s rich lavender-growing heritage, creating a space where nature, people and tradition come together.

Each summer, the fields transform into a breathtaking landscape of purple, welcoming visitors from near and far, as well as those who return year after year.

A Little Note from Us

“This season is particularly special for us as we celebrate 20 years of Mayfield Lavender. What began as a mission to make lavender relevant again has grown into something far greater, bringing both the plant and the area’s historical lavender-growing heritage back to life.

We look forward to welcoming both returning visitors and new faces, and inviting everyone to become part of the ongoing story of this remarkable place.”

 A few tips from us

Based on the many wonderful entries we’ve seen over the years, here are a few things we love:

– Showcasing something special about the farm

– Lavender at its best (ideally not past peak bloom)

– Natural editing, not overly filtered or heavily photoshopped

– Thoughtful composition and attention to detail

Good Luck!
