Lavender oil: nature’s healer

Lavender oil has a huge range of uses due to it’s aromatic, relaxing, soothing properties. Whether it’s an aromatherapy massage, a few drops of lavender in a warm bath, or a sleep remedy, lavender’s healing and calming properties are known and loved. It is also a wonderful first-aid stand-by, for minor burns, bruises, insect stings and cuts.

Our lavender oil is a unique and lovely product. Here are some suggestions for how to use and enjoy it.

Mayfield Lavender Aromatherapy Bath

Add 5 to 10 drops of lavender oil to a warm bath, then lie back and unwind! Ideal for relieving stress and rebalancing body and soul.

Mayfield Lavender Facial

Add 5 drops of lavender oil to a steaming hot bowl of water, place a towel over your head and inhale. Ideal for clearing colds, refreshing and cleansing your skin as well as relaxing and calming.

Good Night Sleep Remedy

Put a few drops of lavender oil onto a handkerchief and place inside your pillowcase. The gentle aroma promotes relaxation and sound sleep.

Mayfield Lavender Shower

Place a few drops of lavender essential oil onto your flannel, rub over your body and inhale the aroma. Ideal for revitalising body and mind.

Mayfield Lavender Body Massage Oil

Mix two drops of lavender oil and two drops of geranium oil with 10ml of jojoba, grapeseed or almond oil. Warm a little in the palms of your hand and inhale deeply. Massage into your body, breathe in and relax. Ideal for calming and de-stressing.

Mayfield Lavender Insect Bite & Sting Remedy

Put 1-2 drops of lavender oil on cotton wool and dab gently on insect bites, bee and nettle stings. Eases pain, reduces swelling and aids speedy recovery.

Mayfield Lavender Minor Burns including Sunburn Remedy

For minor burns and sunburn, add 2 to 3 drops of lavender oil to a litre of water. Place a flannel or clean cotton cloth into the water, then lay on the affected area. Soothes the pain of minor burns, reduces swelling and aids hydration of the skin.

Mayfield Lavender Minor Sprains, Aches and Headache Remedy

Prepare a compress by adding 1- 4 drops of lavender oil to a small bowl of warm water. Soak a flannel or clean absorbent cloth in the water, then lay over the affected area.

Mayfield Lavender Room Fragrance

Add a few drops of lavender oil to a bowl of dried flowers or pot pourri.

or

Float a few drops of lavender oil on water in an oil burner to release the aroma into the air. Make sure that the burner is placed on a heatproof surface and that the bowl is not allowed to burn dry.

or

Shake a few drops of lavender oil onto a cloth or issue and lay over a hot radiator.

or

Add 4-6 drops of lavender oil to 500ml of water. Decant into a plant sprayer kept especially for the purpose. Shake well, then spray.

or

Add 1-2 drops of lavender oil to warm melted wax around the wick of the candle. Essential oils are flammable so care should be taken not to get oil on the flame itself.

Never leave candles unattended.

Ideal for creating a fragranced, calming atmosphere in your home.

Mayfield Lavender Foot Spa

Add a few drops of lavender oil to a bowl of comfortably warm water and soak your feet for 20 minutes. Relaxes and revives tired feet.

Mayfield Lavender Fresh Laundry

Put 2 to 3 drops of Mayfield lavender oil into your washing machine.

or

Add 2 to 3 drops of Mayfield lavender oil to the water in a steam iron.

Ideal for fresh-smelling clothes!

Mayfield Lavender Moth Repellent

Hang Mayfield Lavender Bags on coat hangers in your wardrobe to prevent moths damaging your clothes.

Note: the lavender bags make lovely drawer fresheners and placing under your pillow also aids a good nights sleep! Squeeze the bags with your hand on a regular basis to reactivate the fragrance. After a few months add a few drops of lavender oil to refresh the fragrance.

Mayfield Lavender Manicure

Ingredients for manicure scrub:

  • Handful of coarse sea salt placed in a small bowl
  • 30ml of jojoba or almond oil
  • 6 drops of Mayfield Lavender Oil
  • 2 drops of geranium pure essential oil

Mix all the ingredients together. To use, scoop out a fingertip amount of salt and plenty of oil. Massage in a little lavender scrub on damp hands, paying particular attention to the cuticles around the fingernails, backs of the hands and wrists. Rinse and pat dry. Use an emery board to shape your nails, always file gently in one direction from the outside in. Apply cuticle remover and soak both hands in warm soapy water containing two drops of lavender oil. Dry and gently push back cuticles with orange stick or cotton bud.

Mayfield Lavender Cleansing Wipe

Remove sticky residue left behind by dressings and sticky tape by adding a few drops of Mayfield Lavender Oil on to a cotton wool pad and wiping over the affected area. Repeat if necessary. Finish by wiping clean with water.

  • Test for sensitivity on a small patch of skin before using undiluted, unless dabbed on insect bites, stings and minor burns
  • Keep out of reach of children

  • If in doubt start using a small amount and increase gradually

  • Avoid if pregnant as can be a uterine stimulant
