Welcome to Follow the Bloom – your go-to place for the latest updates from Mayfield Lavender Farm in Banstead throughout the season.

The truth is, no two days at Mayfield are ever the same. The lavender changes a little every day, from the very first hints of purple through to full bloom and, eventually, the end of the season. That’s why we’ll be sharing regular bloom updates right here, giving you an honest look at exactly how the fields are really looking before you visit. Golden Hour Sound Bath at The Secret Garden

Take a Midweek Pause with a Sunset Sound Bath in The Secret Lavender Garden

Life can feel busy, and by the middle of the week it’s easy to find yourself running on autopilot. Our Sunset Sound Bath in The Secret Lavender Garden offers the perfect opportunity to pause, take a breath, and enjoy a peaceful summer evening surrounded by nature.

Join us on Wednesday 22nd July for a deeply relaxing experience in the beautiful surroundings of The Secret Garden.

From 6:00pm, you’ll have time to wander through the rows of lavender at your own pace, taking in the sights, scents, and tranquillity of the gardens. As you explore, you’ll be treated to a refreshing lavender mocktail and light refreshments before the evening’s experience begins.

At 6:45pm, guests will gather in our dedicated Sound Bath space nestled within the garden.

From 7:00pm – 8:00pm, Reiki Master and sound healing practitioner Alexandra Wilby will guide you through a restorative sound bath designed to help you slow down, release tension, and reconnect with yourself.

Beginning with a gentle guided visualisation, you’ll then be immersed in the soothing sounds and vibrations of crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, the gong, and other therapeutic instruments. Combined with the calming scent of lavender and the golden evening light, it’s a truly immersive experience for both body and mind.

Whether you’re looking to reduce stress, enjoy some mindful time outdoors, or simply experience something a little different this summer, this is a beautiful way to spend a summer’s evening.

After the session, you’re welcome to linger a little longer, wander through The Secret Garden, and soak up the last of the sunset before heading home feeling calm, refreshed, and restored.

Facts About Planting Lavender in Dry Weather

Lavender actually prefers dry conditions and thrives in warm, sunny climates.
Lavender grows best in full sun with at least 6–8 hours of sunlight per day.
Well-draining soil is essential – lavender dislikes sitting in wet ground and can struggle in overly damp conditions.
Newly planted lavender still needs watering during very dry weather until roots become established.
Once established, lavender is highly drought tolerant and requires very little watering compared to many other plants.
Dry weather can help intensify lavender’s fragrance and essential oils.
Lavender planted in warm, dry conditions becomes a valuable food source for bees and pollinators during summer months.
Avoid overwatering lavender in hot weather – it’s better to water deeply but less frequently.
Lavender grows particularly well in raised beds, gravel gardens and Mediterranean-style planting schemes where drainage is good.
Adding gravel or stones around the base of lavender plants can help drainage – lavender doesn’t like to sit in water.
The best time to plant lavender is usually spring or early summer, giving roots time to establish before colder weather arrives.

From authentic wood-fired pizza and gourmet hot dogs to freshly made French crêpes, we’ve carefully selected vendors that we believe add something special to the Mayfield experience.

Crepe Salut

For over a decade, Crêpe Salut has been perfecting the art of traditional crêpes. Made fresh to order with a variety of delicious fillings, their sweet and savoury creations are a firm favourite with visitors of all ages.

Oh My Dog

Gourmet hot dogs with something for everyone.

Oh My Dog offers a range of delicious hot dogs, whether you’re looking for a classic favourite or a plant-based alternative. Their menu includes vegan smoked seitan dogs served in dairy-free demi-brioche buns, alongside fully certified Halal smoked turkey dogs.

Perfect for grabbing a bite between photos and exploring the farm.

Napoli on Wheels

Authentic Neapolitan pizza, freshly prepared and cooked before your eyes.

Using only the finest ingredients and traditional methods, Napoli on Wheels serves delicious handcrafted pizzas straight from their mobile oven. Every pizza is made with care, flavour and a passion for great food, making it the perfect lunch stop during your visit to Mayfield Lavender.

For two evenings only, you’ll have the opportunity to relax amongst the lavender and enjoy complimentary tastings of Silent Pool’s handcrafted gin at their exclusive pop-up bar.

As the evening unfolds, take in the beauty of the lavender, watch the sunset over the fields and discover the botanical flavours that make Silent Pool Gin so special.
