When we first introduced our Adopt a Lavender Plant experience, we hoped it would give people another way to feel connected to Mayfield.

What we didn’t quite expect was just how meaningful that connection would become.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been reading through some of the messages of hope that have been left as part of the programme, and it’s fair to say there have been more than a few tears in the office.

Some are written in memory of loved ones.

Some are messages for children and grandchildren.

Some are hopes for the future.

And some are deeply personal reminders to keep going.

Among the messages shared with us are:

“In memory of Dad and his enjoyment of the area and the lavender farm.”

“Dearest Mum, you left me with beautiful memories. Your love is still my guide, and though I can’t see you, I know you’re always by my side.”

“I wish my children and grandchildren good health, happiness and all their heart’s desires.”

And then there are the beautifully simple ones:

“I hope to pass my GCSEs.”

One message in particular really stayed with us:

“A message to me that I may bloom again, find myself again and live the life I imagined, safe, secure and loved.”

It’s difficult to put into words how much it means to us that people have chosen Mayfield as a place to leave these thoughts, memories and hopes.

As a family-run business, we’ve always felt incredibly lucky to have such a supportive community around us, but this experience has shown us another side of that connection.

Every plant adopted carries a story.

Every message means something to someone.

And together, they are becoming part of the next chapter of Mayfield.

There is still time to take part.

Over the next month, we’ll continue planting as part of the programme, and there is still plenty of space for more messages of hope.
